In Arabo, le lettere sono scritte in corsivo (questo significa che le lettere sono collegate tra loro, a formare una parola), non c'è discriminazione tra i vari tipi di scrittura Araba. Per questa ragione, le lettere sono scritte in quattro forme differenti, dipendenti dalla loro posizione nella parola.
La seguente tabella mostra tutte le forme della scrittura araba per ogni lettera:

Note :

Dovreste aver notato che le seguenti sei lettere : Alif (A), Dal (D), Thal (Th), Ra' (R), Zay (Z), Wau (W), ("questi nomi di lettera sono marcati in rosso nella tabella precedente"), hanno lastessa forma sia mediana sia finale (questo significa che queste lettere non possono essere collegate con la lettera che segue, quando capitano nel mezzo o ad inizio parola).
Quando una lettera del gruppo di sei lettere riportato sopra capita vicino ad un altra lettera dello stesso gruppo (di sei), la seconda deve essere scritta nella sua forma iniziale (cioè staccata). (Confusi?? Bene.. c'è un esempio di questo caso nella prossima lezione!!).
Quando la lettera "Alif" viene dopo la lettera "Lam" è scritta in una forma differente di quella sopra (sia per la forma mediana sia per quella finale). La forma è come in figura appresso: (che si legge " LA " comunque)
